Shed-ease ?

nez02 Aug 21, 2005 11:15 AM

My chameleon still have a very little bit of skin stuck on his back from his last shed. He just started shedding again and that skin still stuck. I was wondering if it would be ok to use products such as shed-ease that is supossed to help them shed? Or should I just keep misting him really good?

Thanks
Nez

Hi Nez,

Rather than spend money on something you can use a bit of vegetable oil (almond, jojoba, canola or even olive) - preferable not mineral oil. If it is not in area where it is causing any constriction (probably not on the back) or is dark like a burn then I would just keep up the misting with warm water. Luna used to retain small bits from time to time. If the overall shedding is complete it should be OK.

I had an old rescued Tamatave Panther that had several layers of built up shed on him. I would give him a shower then gently use a baby toothbrush on him. It took several months to get all the layers of old built up skin off. He rewarded me with some spectacular fire engine red displays.
