ID on snake (Veracruz, Mexico, (semi)desert)

Saw several brown or grey snakes yesterday. Looked like the same kind. Took a picture of a brown one:

it digs a lot, it has already made several tunnels in
the substrate.

There are a confusing mix of species/patterns of snakes through out the central part of Mexico. These snakes are very common under rocks in that sort of habitat. They all used to be called Conopsis nasus (I think) but I don't know their current taxonomic status.

You say you took the snake with you? Hope you had some sort of permit!

Yes, I took the snake with me, and I am not aware that in Mexico a permit is required (I live in Mexico for one year and a half). If this is the case I will look into obtaining a permit asap.

I am more into scorpions, so I will also ask if a permit to keep those is required as well, thanks.

I don't believe you can collect wildlife without a permit in Mexico even if you are a resident. Best contact Fauna y sylvestre in your area.
