Does breeding shorten the life of female geckos?

ScarletFever Jul 17, 2003 03:43 PM

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering whether or not breeding has an effect on the longevity of a leopard gecko. I have had my female for 5 years now and she has only been bred once two years ago. I would like to breed her again because my incubator gave out w/o me realizing it and I lost all of the eggs. (
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanx!

Breeding a female too often probably does affect her life span but occasional breeding won't. If a female leo is completely healthy going into a breeding season and is only bred once a year, then it probably does her no harm. Breeding a female multiple times a year will hurt her.

Like with any living animal, breeding adversely affects their longevity, even if they only breed once. I don't know how much it affects them but breeding over and over is worse than breeding them only a few times.
