hey mike(umop), are you going to go to the show in nc this weekend.
my brother was telling me its under new management so the advertising should be a whole lot better this time. i ll probably be there both days.

fyi, it's not this weekend, it's the next (sept. 3 4)

i will definitely be there, and im trying to get a vendor booth to sell off some of my stuff, mainly cresteds and giant day gex. the main problem is that i have other people who wanted to operate the table with me and whatnot, however they have kept me waiting so long that i am really running last minute with registration for my booth, and i really hope i can still get one. but yea, it's under new management. are you and/or your brother getting another table like last time? be sure to get in touch with me before the show, havent heard from you in a while. if anything, i guess ill see ya there.

all of the 3 or 4 other people that told me they would split the table backed out, and i just dont have enough to sell to really absorb that $160 charge for a table on my own.

im not too happy about this, to say the least.

Not to butt into your discussion, but how's the show up there? I just got back from the Daytona Show and with exception of some nice looking ebs, it was a bit disappointing.
Me and the misses are considering a transfer to either Raleigh or Charlotte. How's the reptile scene up there? We've got some cool herps down here in the swamp, but i'm ready for a change.
Do you know what the laws are governing keeping of exotic venemous reptiles? Do you need a license? Thanks!

as far as i know, there is no license required, however there was a bill being petitioned at the raleigh show in may that would have made it illegal to own any "inherently dangerous" animal, which included many snakes of course that meant all venomous. not sure on the status of that bill, whether or not it got struck down yet or not. but they do not permit sale of turtles or venomous in this state (but a short trip to the shows in SC will carry those).

the show in raleigh has seemed to go slowly downhill the past few years, with more and more empty tables at each show. there were TONS of complaints about the management (no names will be mentioned), and i even had a few complaints myself. luckily, the show on the 3rd and 4th will be conducted under new management, and i have heard many good things about them. i look forward to it a lot, and im really disappointed i wont be able to vend this time around. the shows hit raleigh twice yearly, a spring and a late summer show, and i have liked it. in raleigh or charlotte you can also make it to the SC shows (usually in columbia) after a few hours drive and sometimes down there you can find what you couldnt find up here. availability of leaftails varies from show to show, but a really good vendor i often make purchases with is G&G rodent farm. seems like a bit of a misnomer, but they've got TONS of stuff, almost always carrying leaftails, and they often have the best prices on them of any vendor. ive heard of greedier vendors seeing their prices, snatching up all they can get, then marking the animals up 200-400%. kinda shady, but thats just the way some of the vendors are at these shows. i just finished 5 years of school in raleigh and moved back home to charlotte, so i dont have the 5 min drive to the show anymore, kinda bums me out. but i have good friends i can live with. i prefer living in charlotte over raleigh because raleigh always just seemed like a really dirty city and all of the older homeowners are doing their best to make it a living hell for people my age. i live in the suburbs of charlotte and its just more quiet and peaceful here.

if you should happen to move up here, it's a nice place. im just not a city person. im quite fond of one pet store just outside of raleigh, and i miss it quite a bit since ive been back in charlotte. theres a good NCSU herp club that i was/kinda still am part of, formed recently by some of my real good friends. not too much herping in raleigh, but im sure you can find somewhere.

hope the info helps.

Thanks for all the info!
I too would rather not live in the big city; in fact it is the mountains that first attracted me to the Carolinas (and the plethora of IT jobs!).
Is the G&G rodent farm that you mention located in Palatka, FL by any chance?

yeah my brother is just going to work there, hes not going to have a table plus he doesnt have any chams to sell. its usually an ok show to go for geckos. the best shows to go for geckos are usually up north. i used to goto the pottstown pa show and the white plains show and they were pretty good. but for the snakes, a buddy of my who gets booths at all the local shows was telling me that they are going to make some venomous snakes illegal in nc. but i dont think it would make a difference one way or another if something like that was illegal.
