pacman discoloration

lmay777 Aug 22, 2005 03:33 PM

Hi I just got a new baby ornate pacman frog a couple weeks ago and I notice the tips of his lips are turning yellow- is this bad? I previously owned another pacman that died from cold temperature and I noticed his lips did the same thing. Also his overall coloration seems to be getting darker. His tank is 80 degrees all day and night so its not that cold. Does anyone know about this?
Thanks-
Also he does this wierd movement with his back right foot. He lifts it up and wriggles it around like he's strecthing his toes oe something....

I've never heard of pacman frogs lips changing colors because of the temps, but It could just be going through different color phases as it grows. The temperature seems fine, that's what I keep mine at too. Maybe your substrate keeps cool though, perhaps you could look into getting an under tank heater if you wanted, but I wouldn't think you would need one when yours is at 80. It might cook your frog. I'm also not sure what the leg thing is. Is it in a clean environment? Check to make sure it doesn't have red leg (a bacterial infection) and make sure you clean it once a month. All frogs have a different personality, mine wriggles its belly after eating.

My pacman is about 8 months old and his lips turned yellow after a while so it's nothing to worry about. It's just colour pigmentation in their markings that develope as they get older. I think it looks nice 80 degs will be fine. I heat mine with a heat mat but it's attached to the inside wall of the tank so he can escape the heat by moving away or by burying into the substrate. Best not to use the under tank method otherwise cooked froggy could be on the menu.
