....the road less traveled...

I was gonna post this on the Nasty-forum, but thats a pretty unfriendly [& generally uninteresting] place!

What I wanna know is why some of these guys will let you ease up on them & shoot pics from all angles....& others freek the minute you stop & open the door, & they're both warm to the touch....???

Theyre so alert they're nearly birdlike....

Kinda cool, aren't they? The one in the first pic looked like it had some tread marks on it...LOL. Just kiddin'.

Once I was walking along a paved mtn. road when a whipsnake rushed out about a foot, or so, and grabbed a lizard. Then it saw me and froze in position, long enough for me to snap three photos. Point being that sometimes, I think, they use freezing to go undetected, and sometimes they flee because they know they've been seen.

Saw this big girl this summer on Madera Canyon Rd. She was rather old and the color was fading and she escaped into a burnt mesquite...

Looks a lot like our Schott's or schatzis as I call 'em. They split like greased lightnin' down my way!

Hiya Todd, here in central Az the striped tend to be above [elev]the sonorans which tend to be above the coachwhips, but all overlap in a number of areas, tho Ive never fd all 3 in one specific area.
Very interesting beasts 4-sure...nearly as fast as your screename!
