you need to keep food in their face at all times when they are that
small. They onlt need a really small (tiny) space to make sure they can get extablished. As for dead minnows. mine don't really eat anything that's not living. Since they are so small you can feed them some quality pellets, but count how many you put in and leave them alone. I would take out any uneaten sticks or pellets and them put fresh ones in until you notice that they are eating them.
The key is to make it stupid easy for them to have a fish swim into or through their mouth with NO EFFORT. They're not hearty enough yet to wait, or work for the food.

Pics?

Good Luck!

what kind of pellets can i feed them just some reptomin?and i how many rosy reds would you put in like a big gulp cup for the a.s. and would raising the temp in the tank make them want to eat more i have it set at 80 degrees. And what r some fatty foods b/c 1 of my guy looks a little skinny shouldnt they have some bulk to them?

I have found that mine scavenges dead fish all the time. Whenever a fish dies in his feeding container it will be gone by the next morning.

Hey Dewback! Your lucky... mine (yearlings) haven't hit that stage yet. They like them fresh!~

Skater... big gulp cup is perfect~ I'd say like 4-5 with about an inch of water~ reptomin is OK, but I've been told that mazuri is healthier for them. You should try veggies and raw beef too. ( right now I'm using cubed beef from the meat dept. that I cut down to super small bites ) I freeze the meat and thaw a hunk as needed. 4.50 has lasted me a month so far and I have about a weeks woth left.
Stevh says his like corn. MikeT is using Beta fish because they're arrogant. But he's breeding them which could otherwise get costly.

turtleman.com
He's about 2.5" Hand picked by the Mr. Richards.
I've been working on getting rid of the algae on his shell.
I'll be taking new pics of him and my setups this weekend when I get my new 125 Gallon tank up and running.

I'd call him ( Jon aka turtleman ) about them if you're really interested.
You should also email "turtlesox" here on the KS forum.
She has LOTS of beautiful pinks and almost all of her turtles have the golden shells~ I have two from her, and they are equally as amazing as "turtleman's," stock. She's always been great about sending pics and is just a great person to deal with!

I had several conversations with each of these folks before I ordered. They both wanted to give me the best turtle from the stock that they had at the time.

Richards is the Ally Snap wizz'ard & a really cool guy.
Martha (turtlesox) is an absolute sweet heart, and a friend
She rules!! Both of them REALLY care about the species, and their conservation. I should also mention that Jon and Martha are
good friends too... small world in these parts.

Jom's written a few articles on alligator snappers~ the easiest one to get if you haven't seen it is in a copy of last years "REPTILES," magazine. Just do a google search for "reptiles magazine" and go to their site. You can order the back issues direct from them. I believe his article is in August or October 2004 issue. It has a common snapper on the cover and the story is
called "Watch out they bite!" There's other interviews and things about Jon on the web so you can google him too to find out more about him.

Just remember that the really crazy looking pinks are more expensive, *usually* are a bit more aggressive than the regular colored already are, and can also be more sensitive to their captivity depending on how established they are.
That statement goes for any hatchling or yearling Ally Snaps though.

Post some pics when you get a chance~
I'd really like to see the lil' buggers!

P.S. great on setting the water at 80F.
You might want to try setting it at about 82-83F.
Do it one degree a day. They usually grow bigger faster the warmer the water. They'll also be less prone to getting sick(cold).
If they climb out of the water~ move them to the big gulp cup with extra food and keep them there, and keep track of fish counts.

Here are a couple of pics of my bigger Gold ~n~ Pink "RA"
I got her from turtlesox~ I love this turtle!
The pics don't even come close to doing this girl her true color justice, but enjoy!
