Breeding Erebennus

Hey everyone... I have a quick question. To breed Texas Indigos can you follow the same protocol of Easterns or do they require something a bit different?

I read Fred's article on "Care and Breeding of Eastern Indigo Snakes" on www.indigosnakes.com. Any tips/advice/etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Graham

basically, if you put them together in the fall, they'll breed esp. when exposed to natural photoperiod. that's been my experience, my drys will start courting/chasing very soon now, usually right around labor day each year. this will continue off and on till around new year's resulting in eggs in mid march........

I put mine through the exact same breeding regimine as my easterns with very good luck.

Fred's article is very good...

Also...I have a couple on indigosnakes.com

Although I agree with Dan that they will breed if you put them together in the fall, I believe that you fertility will be much greater if you use the indigo breeding method with the nightime drops, etc.

The more tropical subs are bred more like boas / pythons, but the US species are a bit more tricky. They are kind of 1/2 way between a tropical snake and a typical NA colubrid!

For the past two years I've kept Texas breeders under same conditions as Easterns. I would wait until November to put adults together. We still haven't figured out how many females can be successfully bred to one male or to keep them one on one or to use multiple males with one female.
