How much social time?

XIguanaX86 Aug 23, 2005 11:00 AM

I was just curious how much time I should be spending with my Iguana daily.. I currently hold it about 20 minutes a day. It's still a little agressive, just turned 1 year old 2 days ago. But anyway I can tell the temperment is improving a little, the only time its aggressive is when I reach into the cage to pick her up, otherwise it sits in my lap with me and closes its eyes. I ordered a new cage like a month ago from reptiledirect.com and it came destroyed (literally), and im still waiting for the replacement... Besides that my Ig is doing good, she drinks when I mist her, not that I notice from the two water sources I have in the cage. And is eating very well. Thanks

As much as humanly possible. We When we got Iggi, we held her, petted her, talked to her, sang to her, and kissed her the whole day. We would put her down maybe 20 minutes, in her enclosure, to go potty. She would fall to sleep on my chest, as I watched TV at night. My wife would carefully pick her up, still sleeping, and put her in her enclosure. At one year old, she would stand up in the enclosure for us to pick her up.

We bought a floor-to-ceiling cat tree, put a human heating pad under a baby blanket, and threw away the enclosure. She has been a free roamer ever since. She has never bit us, tail whipped us, or deliberately scratched us.

I guess I should hold her more often then lol, cause at one year old also, she still bites and wips when I go to pick her up... But once I have her in my hands I pet her and she goes to sleep.
