calico...morph?

sutorherp1 Aug 23, 2005 07:01 PM

Hey; I saw a picture of a calico mabey two years ago(?) and I remember hearing about the possibility of it bieng a morph that can carry through in the offspring. I've got a good understanding of genetics and producing desireable traits, butI havn't heard anything about the calico's genotype. In breeding this snake with a wild type (tricolor or tangerine) honduran, will it produce hets and then on Calico's? Theoretically, I'd like to see what breeding the Calico's (if Calico offspring are present in clutch) with other morphs (amelanistic, anerythristic) would do. I love the look of the Calico and I'm curious. Anyone know its definate genotype?

nope. it didn't breed the first year. last year we produced 2 pr. they're growing well and we hope they'll breed for us (steve michaels owns the mom and one of the two pairs of offspring) in 06. That'll be the first test of whether or not it's inheritable. I used a ghost male to breed to her, by the way, figuring the hypo and anery morphs were the ones that would be most interesting if it proves inheritable, whereas the amel might show no effects at all from the change.

terry
albino tricolors

(some of the "possible hets" sold at the same time the calico was sold have bred together, and so far have yielded no calicos. but there was a lot of doubt whether any of those possible hets really were what they were advertised as.)

I would love to see what results from the calico if it is inheritable. What a beautiful snake. Thanks,
-Sean
