I purchased these guys at Daytona this past weekend. I believe I was told they were a rough green???? But then I heard the term ribbon snake. I was hoping for an exact id so I can do some research on their habitat etc. If you have any info that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, its a rough green snake.. definlty not a ribbon snake..

Yes..rough green, (Opheodrys aestivus). They are one of the few North American snakes that are exclusively insectivorous.
Your snake should accept crickets. You may want to dust them with a mineral/calcium powder. They are arboreal. Set the cage up with branches the snake can climb on, as well as a hide box.

Ok I had tried feeding them last night the crickets that I already had but they were a little too big so I got some smaller ones I will see if they eat. I liked the fact that they were insectivores. Not very keen on feeding the mice!
Do I need to tong feed or anything crazy like that or just dump a bunch of crickets in. Also how humid and what temps should I have it had. I have them currently in a 10 gallon (they are pretty small) with a big branch that they climb a water dish and a hide box. After some time I will add some more fake plants.

Thanks
Christina

That green looks like a baby so you may want to be very watchful to the amount of crickets you place with them. Those tiny crickets will nibble on the snake while it sleeps and could easily kill it. Place only a few crickets in at a time and ensure there is a piece of lettuce in there for the crickets to eat vice the green snake. Also, I heard that UV lighting is helpful to rear baby green snakes.

Something else that is good its to mist them a couple of times a week. At that age dehydration can be a factor. As to temps, mid 70's to upper 80's works fine.

Ok thanks.... I actually have a 25 watt bulb on them (it is only a 10 gallon tank) that keeps it in the upper 70's to low 80's. ANd I do have a uvb bulb on it. THey are in my frog room so I mist my frogs once a day so I will continue that routine. Actually right now they are on paper towels so maybe I will mist 2x a day since hte paper towels tend to dry out really fast.

What kind of substrate do you guys recommend???? Or should I keep them on paper towels until they get a bit larger?

Paper towels are ok. I usually use Cypress mulch for larger specimens.
