Just got a shippment of superworms... need help

jag Jul 17, 2003 05:26 PM

OK I just got my shipment of superworms (250 of them) from american cricket ranch. And none are moving. I called them and they said due to the heat that they probably have slowed down a lot. Is this normal. I bought mealies form them too and they arent movign either. The all look healthy besides a dead one her or there is that normal?

The mealies and supers should be moving...warmth makes them more active. They should start moving in a few minutes...open the cups up to allow ventilation. If they aren't active in 10 minutes something is wrong.

I got them in about 40 min ago and a few are moving here or there but you have to pick them up and look for it. I called the company and he said that maybe with the heat it slowed them down, and to put them in a cooler enviroment proably about 70-75 degrees for about 24 hours and they should be ok. But I thought like you said the more heat the more active. But today its about 105 degrees where I live. Did the heat kill them?

I have never heard superworms or mealworms not moving because of heat, if anything the heat makes them more active whereas cold will slow them down. Maybe they're dead because it's too hot? I know where you are is even hotter than the bay area and it's in the 90's here today!

Yep.... their dead. I waited to the following day like the told me but yet still nothing. I called them this morning. They are going to resend me my order on MOnday, cuz they dont ship on fridays because if someones order is wrong they cant fix it cuz they are closed on weekends. Which I can understand. Yep it is hot today its supposed to be 105 lol. They said they they will send the next in a cooler package. So thats nice, I didnt have to send the others back either... Man they stank lol. So I cant wait to get the others in.
