Mother and babies

greg woodie Aug 24, 2005 12:22 AM

this is a female Eastern Garter from Bedford County, Virginia and SOME of her babies which were born August 13th. there were 53 in all, but one was stillborn. i've caught Garters just about all my life, but never seen one around here before with red between the scales like this female.

That's sweet. I would hang onto her.

I caught a huge female in a neighboring state that had peach/orange between the scales. Also had peach under the tail and neck.nice snake!

53 babies too many? You think? LOL Excellent looking Garter Greg. Very interesting that she has some red on her. Also love her nice dorsal stripe. Anyway, if I end up going, I'll see you at Manassas show Saturday.

Greg,

The female is sweet looking! It would be interesting to see if any of the babies grow up looking like her. Are you keeping any of the babies?
