can i house my balls together?

goregrind Aug 24, 2005 08:57 AM

i know they are supposed to be solitary but my snakes really seem to like company. when im handling more than one snake at a time they seem to be more active and sniff each other, when i go to pull them away, they interlock tails. even when the other snake is a cornsnake.

it seems to me that they are actually social, would it be alright to house them together for a few weeks to see what happens? niether are full grown does this have anything to do with it?

I wouldnt house 2 ball pythons together unless I was attempting to breed them.. I DEFINEATLY would not house 2 different species of snakes together... They probably are "interlocking thier tails together" just for grip because if your holding a snake in each hand they probably arent getting the support they need to feel comfortable so they are wrapping around each other to make sure they dont fall. Its a all around bad idea to house a ball python and a cornsnake together regardless of age, sex, etc... Just my 2 cents.

LOL, snakes are like kids, they're inquisitive and curious. They check out anything in range of their tongues, live or dead. The interlocking when you seperate them is more a security issue then a friendly gesture. If you'll notice, snakes like to keep their tail in contact with something at all times. So if they loose their grip elsewhere they still have a grip on something with their tail. As for caging them together, I wouldn't. They are from different parts of the planet, requiring different heat and humidity variables. One would eventually suffer. Just my thoughths.

i house two 04 female siblings. they have been together since birth. they are completly fine. i dont know about introducing new balls together, if they are still young, then i GUESS it might be okay....difinately DO NOT keep different kinds of snakes together. they have different living requirements.

If you get yourself a decent pair of 'jockeys', you can house two balls and a one eyed trouser snake easily. LOL.
