HEY JOSHHUTTO.........Nature lesson

OLDSKOOL28 Aug 24, 2005 11:46 AM

I'm NOT trying to start a flame , Just making a little more sense of what you said . Genetic Defects are PART OF NATURE . You should know when you're breeding , you're in a sense ,creating nature in your facility......anything can happen. A 3 headed wobbling Bumblebee , oh my god . It still doesn't take away from WHAT A SPIDER BRINGS TO THE TABLE . Spiders were one of the first COLOR & PATTERN mutations to hit the scene , let's not forget where we came from . Why don't you ask Kevin @ Nerd what he thinks , then he'll joyfully show you the.... KILLERBEE ,QUEEN-BEE,LESSER-BEE , HONER-BEE , BUMBLEBEE , CINNA-BEE , etc,etc,etc..SHOULD I GO ON???? JUST MY OPINION.(sorry to involve you Kevin)

LOL. Love spiders too.Picking one up from Roussis Reptiles in a couple of weeks.
Not quite sure why you are so passionately offended by one persons opinion.( Who I am sure, is in the minority)
There are always those who will try to capitalize on popularity of any animal and irresponsibly breed in genetic defects. It can't hurt to educate people that a problem exists, and as a newbie glad to know what to look out for... I agree though, no need to 'throw the baby out with the bath water'

Best regards,
A.

This is pretty interesting. I just purchased a spider from a great breeder and contacted them the other day asking about the fact that my spider's head "shakes or trembles." Would someone be so kind as to provide the details of this trait and let me know the effects/side effects? Thanks in advance.

Signed,
A concerned spider dad

The whole spider paranoia was started a few months ago by someone who neither likes nor keeps spiders .. It is likely that the spider mutation is adjacent to a motor gene, and if you look at a spider, any spider, long enough, you will see the head twitch. This is in no way similar to the caramel abnormality, which may be a profound defect, yet caramels maintain their popularity. Nor does it in any way keep the spider from being one of the most prolific, best feeding, fastest growing morphs out there. Do a forum search on the topic, and see NERD's response of a few months ago. It best puts things in perspective.

let's get it straight, I never downed the people who breed spiders nor stated that I didn't think they are beautiful. In fact I said "I will not be owning one of these beautiful snakes". I do realize that not all, in fact only a low % of spiders are "wobblers" but it's just something I don't want in my collection and I think all people who purchase spiders should be educated on before they buy, like the person who responded to my post below. I mean seriously how well do you think this add would sound " BEAUTIFUL SPIDER BALL FOR SALE, SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY BUT EAT'S WELL AND WILL BREED THIS YEAR". I've seen adds like that and is as bad as the caramel's that are kinked and people sell them as breeders. Another point I do realize that when we breed morphs we are in fact breeding genetic mutations that are inferior to the normal ball but each person must draw a line that we will not cross. With me it's breeding snakes that "shake, corkscrew and wobble" Again that's just me, I do think that spider's and spider crosses are truly beautiful animals that i will enjoy looking at in other's collections such as NERD's as i did see all the new crosses in daytona that you mentioned and believe them to be some truly stunning animals. Josh Hutto

ps. do dog breeders knowingly sell puppies that have hip displaysia (sp) to people that are planning on starting a breeding kennel, not the responsible ones. They spay/neuter the animals and are sold as pet quality animals.
