question for anyone with a blue or partial blue chondro.

iceyesnteeth Aug 24, 2005 03:30 PM

i noticed something with my sorong.hes got lots of blue but when indoors under either regular light,or even a florecent his blue looks kinda gray blue,a little on the drab side compared to when i bring him into natural sunlight, holy smoke!!! his blue looks like its glowing outside!!.there is a huge difference.he has tons of blue and its very noticable inside but if i was ever able to show off his blue while on display inside, with the same intesity as it looks outside,id have one hell of a display animal.i was wondering when they best type of lighting to use for this situation.i tried a florecent(thats uv right) with no better results as with a regular light blub.i know there has to be something to make it look even close to natural light.its just amazing seeing him outside.

Check out the narative and charts for these bulbs. The full spectrum fluorescents make for nice display lights.

Hey Icey. If you use a good full spectrum fluorescent inside your cage you can get much closer to what you are seeing in natural light. On the other hand, a typical household fluorescent, in my opinion, is worse than an incandescent. You can even use a good aquarium bulb to get a good effect. Just look at the ratings on the bulbs. I have used the Reptisun 2.0, Vita-lite like Greg mentioned, and a few different types of aquarium bulbs with great success.

Hope this helps,
Kevin
