a few questions

mezmerize Aug 24, 2005 03:35 PM

Hey i'm considering buying a pair of easterns and i live in south jersey.
1)I assume that the climate is ok for them as they are indigenous to nj.
2)I'm worrie that it might be a little to cold even for hibernation in the winter with temps going down to 15 F on the odd cold day?
3) what is the easiest material to use for building an outdoor enclosure?

Any help greatly appreciated,
matt

I don't know what the weather is like in the North & don't have any experience with Easterns but as far as outdoor enclosures go, I like brick. Cinder block, paver brick, garden brick whatever the home improvement stores or brick supply companies have the best deal on.
The price of wood these days is like the price of gold. Where I live brick is far cheaper than wood & it doesn't rot.
That's my personal preference for outdoor enclosure building materials.

It is o.k for them in that cold. Mine managed. They are used to it. I just make sure that the have things like logs over soft dirt to bury under.
I dig a trench and prebuild the fence with chicken wire and 2x2 . I bury it 6" deep. Cheap, easy, and effective.
