"That said though, anyone with a sensativity to venom would be cautioned against holding any colubrid from a rat snake to a hognose as they all have venom glands but a very inefficient delivery system."

Can someone go into greater detail about this?

Dr. Fry has stated that likely all colubrids are venemous with the exception of members of the American genera Including Rat snakes, Kings, Bullsnakes, and their cousins.

European Ratsnakes have been seperated into different genera. I am not sure about Elaphe its self, but the other genera I believe have been found to have the equipment necessary to some degree.

Hognose have long been known to be venemous.

Thanks Al,

to further clarify...

Corn snakes do not belong to the genus Elaphe anymore. The name in use is Pantherophis guttata.

Elaphe only applies to some of the old world ratsnakes.
