Guess who's excavating a nest?

Oxyrhopus Aug 24, 2005 06:42 PM

This is a very easy guess but a very interesting as she is digging a nest for her eggs.

The last week, she did not seem settled with a lay box of wet sand, so today I sprayed the sand in an area of her large cage and set a rock-den over it. She immediately smelled the fresh wet sand and rushed over so very quickly that I could barely get my hands out of the cage in time. She began to dig out the sand with her neck, much like how a northern pine does. She is settled in there now and I am hopeful if not more nervous at the moment.

She has not released them and I have another in shed that looks like she is gonna drop also. She has 3 different laying spots and I've consulted with a guy who breeds them and he said that she will look for a long time and eventually settle on a spot and drop. I think I am going to cover the front of her cage with newspaper and let her think she is isolated and maybe she will drop. She looks like she is dragging her butt behind her with all those eggs there at the vent area.
