Dumerils cage size?

Mokele Jul 17, 2003 06:35 PM

I've considering a Dumerils monitor, but i want to be sure of what cage size they need first. I heard they enjoy burrowing, swimming, and climbing a lot, so i was considering a 4'x6'x4' cage with nice deep substrate and a big waterbowl, along with a lot of dirftwood perches for climbing.

does this sound big enough and suitable?

also, how arboreal are Dumerils? do they spend most of their time climbing?

and, last but not least, should the basking spot be in the branches, at ground level, or two basking spots, one at each location?

thanks,
Henry

If youre going 6' high, why not also go 6 or 8' long? 4 ' is a tad bit narrow to have enough ground space for borrowing and a good sized water container.

side note* When we build large enclosures, we make them so they can be taken apart, so if they need to be transported, its possible, without ruining the cage.- Just an idea, if youre concerned about that issue
