I recently shipped someone a cbb pet corn snake through UPS. The tracking label somehow got lost and UPS called the phone number on the package (which was the recipient). Anyway, when they called the buyer, they asked what was in the box and they unknowningly said it was a snake. Well the UPS person flipped out. The recipient went to the UPS pick-up station where they were told that shipping a snake was the same as shipping narcotics through UPS. I guess I always thought that it wasn't against the law, just against policy to ship through private carriers like UPS, FedEx or Airborne.
UPS said they would need to hold the package and wait until the local humane society or animal control could come and identify the snake as a harmless snake. After hours of waiting, the buyer finally received a call from UPS. The employee said that the no one ever showed to ID the snake so it was okay for them to come and pick-up their new pet corn snake. So my question is what next? Will UPS contact me or try to push the issue any further? I do not ship snakes often but I've received close to 100 snakes through the mail through various companies and UPS has by far been the best (w/respect to receiving). I have never had any problems until now. A friend told me that next time I should just say that it is a gecko or lizard and to tell the buyers to say this also in case of a problem. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks in advace for your replies.
