Here's a few more pics of my 2005 thayeri.
The first 2 pics are females the last one is a male
I retook a pic of 501F leonis.
The first and third are females.
The second one is a male.
I'm still debating if I should keep the first one of these or the third one. What do you think????
I like the second and the third.....but all are outstanding.
Awesome little neonates there Chris.
Glad to see you get some killers, screamers, smokers.......LOL
John Lassiter
John,
The second one is a male. I'm only going to keep one FEMALE. I'm trying to decide between the 1st and 3rd of these. Do you like the 3rd more than the 1st?
I really do. So, when you pick the first I'll take number three off yer paws!
They are all beautiful. Congrats!
Thanks Mike,
I'm leaning towards (#3) that high yellow female too but the other ones (#1) a killer too plus she's alrady eating.
I do like the third one more than the first, but that is just my humble opinion.....Keep the one YOU like the best. We all like a snake for different reasons.....Some people like pattern, some color. Some like head pattern some like aberrancies.....
Any one you decide on will be great....they ALL look nice Chris.
Kinda hard letting them go, eh? You can produce more man.....
There is no such thing as an ugly thayeri......IMHO
Let me know what one you decide on.
John Lassiter
...for what it's worth, I like what I see in female #1 quite a lot. Fantastic head pattern, great light centered saddles, nice peach/orange blush and the fact that she is eating already is a big plus in itself for a female. Chances are she will continue to be a great feeder and in an adult female breeder, I would think the better feeders from the start have a better chance to support the large clutches these things are capable of if that feeding response continues into adulthood. Tough to decide this early... the cleaner yellow is certainly hard to resist. Personally I think I would hang on to both for a few months to see how they develop and #3 would really have to show me something in the meal program to win me over... #1's saddles and head pattern are just too nice!
Mike
I was hoping you would respond. I appreciate your thoughtful well reasoned opinion. I've only tried feeding once and half of them ate. I think you are right I need to give it a little time. They are both very nice. Thanks again Mike

...you're getting it right here and now, no beatin' around the bush. Keep them both, they are more than worthy. You know you want to, the investment in time and money has already been made, they are right there in your posession and you won't ever find yourself wishing you had kept them both. I know you want to recoup the cost of the trio, but you should be able to come so close anyway that the cost of keeping the 2 girls will be pocket change if you don't indeed make a few good bucks... and where are you going to get a pair of females like that for what you will have in them?!! Big Yeller genes baby, at a bargain rate. You will never again hatch a clutch from him. You can buy 'em... or trade for 'em... but you already have 'em and they will have been raised by you from day 1.
So go ahead and put that second rack up and keep 'em. It's bound to happen sooner or later... investment in the future my friend.
Mike
I agree with Mike. Keep them both. You'll have 2 killer female breeders in a couple years, that are worth their weight in gold. mike bod
Thanks Mike,
But there's one more twist in the equation that I forgot to mention. It's called W I F E LOL
LOL Mike I would love to keep them both really but there are other thayeri snakes in play here that you all don't know about. I'm going to be KEEPING 3 girls plus one male. I have plenty of "big yellers" genes in my thayeri pool. LOL. And I still have plenty of space on my current rack.
Chris G
Who the heck is Big Yeller?????????
LOL..........
John Lassiter
He's a cousin twice removed from "ole Yeller". LOL
And Daddy to this dude

LOL....That movie made me cry....
Is this him????
John

That looks alot like him but I'm not sure. These hatchling hardly look anything at all like him!!!!!! LOL
Great to see other offspring besides my lonely 2 that have hatched and one more pipping from the Vivid MSP from David.....
Looks like the MSP mother.....as far as I can tell....
John Lassiter
Cool post pics when it hatches out.
And your right most of these hatchlings look more like "Big Yeller" than "Mildred".
I’m going to buck the trend and go with female number one. She has the potential to produce others just like female number 3 and she is more likely to produce some with nice bright orange (nothing is 100 percent with Thayeri). I also like the fact that her saddles are lighter and the “split” saddle effect is more pronounced. I like the look of number 3 better but you are asking which one would I use as a breeder over the other one, that’s why I go with number 1. I think when looking for a good breeder (Thayeri), people need to be able to pick apart the pieces, then decide which piece you need to meet your concept of a good Thayeri within your stock (man I almost sound serious). I like the male best though.
Thanks for your input Rick. I'm still mulling it over. You have some very good valid points and I appreciate them.
That male is pretty cool to. He's got a very strange neuchal and head pattern and the pics doesn't show it to well but he's got a cool green color.
Chris
Besides appearance, because you're not going to be dissappointed with either one try to make the decision on other factors.
One factor for breeding you be appetite. I know with some calkings I've had are just mice disposals and will never refuse a mouse in shed or at any other time. The calkings are the ones that get fed last and do the clean-up for any other snakes that may refuse due a shed. This feeding repsonse could be crucial to your future breeding with a female thayeri, a mouse disposal type feeder is always going to be less stressful and easier to maintain and keep healthy. Another factor could be temperment, which some straight of the egg are tolerant of handling. Making it easier clean, feed, water, and handle.
Chris I know you already are aware of this, but I just wanted to point out don't focus on appearance alone when choosing this long term thayeri breeder take into account some other factors.
Good luck because I know I would keep them all,
Uncloudy
Chris
