Some of my thayeri

Lee McMurtry Aug 24, 2005 09:47 PM

This is a really girthy 2000 female with pinstripes - I got her last year and she failed to produce for me this year - she isn't egg-bound, she's always that big!

Lee,

She is a great looking MSP. I used to have a male that looked almost indentical to her. Nice..........

I have been calling this pattern "aberrant" - maybe I should have called it "Jaguar"! LOL!

jlassiter Aug 24, 2005 10:28 PM

WOW....That is different....who produced it?
John Lassiter

Lee McMurtry Aug 24, 2005 11:31 PM

I don't know who produced her. I got her at the IRBA show in San Diego in 2003, from a guy who said he was getting out of other colubrids to focus on Honduran morphs. If I remember correctly he was selling out of Randy Wright's booth, but this one wasn't produced by Randy.

jlassiter Aug 24, 2005 10:29 PM

Looks more like a "Zipper" pattern......LOL
Great looking thayeri you got Lee....all of them.

a Jaguar sausage LOL. Very nice. Hope to see her produce next year.

Aberrant, is what my brain is – Abby Normal. Spotted is what your Thayeri is. Leopards are spotted (most anyway) so Leopard Thayeri is good except, Leopards are from Africa (or the Zoo) not Mexico like Thayeri. Jaguar’s are spotted and come from Mexico (amongst other places) so Jaguar makes since to me. I refer back to my first sentence about aberrance though. Anyway, “Jaguar” is “mo beta” than something boring like “aberrant”. If you cannot have fun with it what’s the point of doing it? I thought about “Pink Panther” too but they are not spotted (except as kittens, cubs, whatever they are).

By the way - WOW, we have to talk.

That same breeder talked to me at the IRBA show last year. He was looking for someone to take over his Thayeri project, a mix of spotted “JAGUAR” to almost patternless. He has been selectively breeding for lack of pattern. I told him I was interested but then he disappeared and I don’t remember his name. There is soooo much room for growth with Thayeri. It still P. O.’s me that Ruthveni were mixed with Thayeri to get albino, now when the pure Albino shows up (it will some day) it will be discounted as “impure”.

jlassiter Aug 25, 2005 06:11 PM

Yeah....but the leopard thayeri have hallow saddles with the ground color in them as a Leopard does.
Jaguars have dark spots....so Jaguar it is for this one and Dan V's are still Leopards in my book......

Even though the Ocelot does not range up into Thayeri country, I would be willing to stretch the boundary to suit my own demented purpose (lol). I think I like Ocelot more now, small and spotted.

I saw Dan V's spotted pics last year but I did not know Dan V had named his Leopard (I'm old and forget stuff). Where are some more pics of his? Dan, where are you?

jlassiter Aug 25, 2005 07:24 PM

Ocelots and jagua-rhundi (sp) both occur in South Texas...Seen a few when I was a child on our acreage in Aransas Co., TX. (Rockport).
I don't know if they occur in Nuevo Leon, Mexico or not.......

Ocelot just keeps getting better and better for me - lol.

Where are Dan V's Pics? Come on Dan don't make me beg.

Lee McMurtry Aug 24, 2005 10:31 PM

This one was produced by Dan Vermilya - won't be ready for next year but hopefully 2007. I have a very similar male to pair her with, also from Dan.

I really like this little guy - he has very little black at all. And of course, since I like him he's a problem feeder - he's quite small for his age. Now I just need a reduced black female to pair him with.

jlassiter Aug 24, 2005 11:12 PM

Here are some....but I don't think I can sell them....LOL
John Lassiter

All three females and I have no reduced black male....HMMMM....Maybe I need your male.....HAHAHAHAHAH

Lee McMurtry Aug 24, 2005 11:37 PM

Very nice, John, especially the third one - she could be very nice when she grows up. Surely there's some way to rectify the situation!
BTW - how do you post multiple pics - I could have saved myself a lot of time...

jlassiter Aug 25, 2005 05:42 AM

Thanks for the compliment Lee....And yes that third one is my favorite reduced black one. I picked her up in Daytona from Mitch Allen. The other two popped out of my Vivid line in 2002...

To post multiple pics (only 3 per post) just hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard while you click on the image description.

There is another way to post numerous pics in a post that envolves a lot more.......

By the way.......Great thayeri Lee,
John Lassiter

Some wonderful snakes! I love the pinstripes, and the reduced black male. Good luck with his feeding.

rick millspaugh Aug 25, 2005 11:01 AM

That is nice. Isn't that the way it works with the really cool ones. Size is less important than his motivation though (lol), unless he becomes a meal of course.

Lee McMurtry Aug 25, 2005 11:48 AM

LOL! I know! Its tempting to put him in with the smaller females, but the last thing the world needs is a line of smaller thayeri babies! I'll just have to try to be sure that everyone is well fed...

rick millspaugh Aug 25, 2005 03:09 PM

I thought his "size complex" was from being a picky feeder (environmental) not a genetic problem.

Lee McMurtry Aug 25, 2005 11:00 PM

You're right, of course - I have no reason to believe that he's a dwarf thayeri. He's funny - he'll eat F/T just fine for weeks and then go on long hunger strikes for no apparent reason.

mexicanamak Aug 25, 2005 03:15 AM

They all have a lot going for them. Love the aberrant pattern in the '01 female and the way the black sets it all off... very very nice! You are going to have your hands full of some exceptionally nice babies one day soon with that bunch without question. Thanks for sharing and good luck next year.

I noticed you asked about posting multiple photos... when you are selecting images from your photo gallery from the menu at the bottom of the page, you will see in small print... (To select up to 3 images hold 'Ctrl' while clicking on the image name)... do that and it will highlight all that you select up to 3 and post them all.
