My first frog, first pac man =)

Sekoye Aug 24, 2005 09:57 PM

Well I finally recieved mine, been waiting a good month for it =) He's about the size of a quarter now, and he ate his first cricket after leaving him be for 3 hours to calm his nerves. What am I saying.. I'm just assuming he's a male.. not sure yet =) I'm named him Chode, Chode the toad LOL!

Just using eco-earth as a subrstrate, and its about 2 inches deep... think I need to put moss over it?

That is an awesome pacman frog you have! Mine looked almost just like it when I got mine. Mine I think is a male now, but when I got him I thought he was a female and named him Uma... I have moss but I don't use it, only because I don't need anymore humidity and they are fine without it. Plus, moss causes gut impaction when swallowed. So you're fine without it, unless you need more humidity, then I'd put some on one side only, not all over. Post again when you determine if it's a boy or girl and what you named it! Here is mine.

Nice looking frog you have there =)

Well I woke up this morning, and there was so much humidity in there I couldn't even see threw the glass =P The temperature was about 75 degrees, and with the lights on its about 85 degrees. I also have a reptile heating pad on the right side of my aquarium and the water dish on the left side.

He hasn't moved since he ate his first cricket. He also looks alot more green today then he did yesturday, which I found kinda weird. I'm going to go pick up some background from the petshop, make it a bit more enclosed for him. I won't know if he is a he or she... put I really like the name Chode, Chode the Toad =)

Thanks, I love Uma.
Yeah, I wouldn't get moss if I were you, it could be swallowed and it could block up Chode the Toad and kill it! I'm going to do the same thing and get a background soon too. Your temperatures and everything are great, Chode will love his new home. My albino Uma also has some green on he/she, but he/she didn't have that on her when he/she was little. I like it though, so it's fine with me.

Here's a picture from today. I put in the background, put some rocks in his water dish, and put the log in the back of the terrarium. He hasn't moved much at all, if anything he's rotated a bit, and burried himself a bit deeper =)

I tried putting more crickets in today, to see how many he would eat. So I dusted 4 of them, dropped them in and he ate one immediately as it walked over his head. I came back 2 hours later, and I can't seem to see any crickets at all.....

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to go looking for dead crickets? Or what poop looks like. The guy at the pet store said you only need to clean it every 3-4 months. Which seems like an awfully long time to go without cleaning.... I'm not sure how many crickets I supposed to feed the little guy, I don't want him to get too fat.

The picture as you can see is pretty clear, but I took a clean cloth and soaked up all the moisture on the glass so I could take a picture =)

Oh another question! Am I supposed to put cricket food inside the terrarium? I bought a cricket keeper, and have food and water there... but I heard that crickets if hungry will munch on your little one if they have nothing to eat.

Thanks!

Make sure you do take out dead crickets after every feeding. Feed the guy 4-6 crickets a day until a little bigger, when you feed it every other day. Don't forget to mix up the diet with redworms and waxworms and maybe a fish, but you don't need a fish really. That guy was wrong, clean your tank with new substrate once a month. Their poop is huge, you should notice it. Pick Chode's poop out as soon as you see it. It smells badly. You know it's starving and you have to feed it when its back leg bones are jutting out like a knife and you can see its spine. When it is double wide as long it is over feeding. That's all you can really judge on. I think I answered all of your questions, feel free to post again!

On yeah, and no I don't put cricket food in the tank while I feed mine. But that's because mine eats the crickets right away. I would take a whip cream plastic top, or whatever, to put cricket food on it so the crickets can climb on it and eat and then go back to running around your frog while your frog stalks it!
