would u guys rather get 1.5 ghosts or 1.1 ghosts and 1.0 mojave. which would have more potential? thinking of making some purchases next yr but cant make up my mind? so any opinions would be appreciated. thnx

Well personally I would have to say that the best way to spend your money would be to buy 1.0 male ghost and 0.5 female het ghost. Then with the rest of your money turn around and buy a few more of the recessive genes(albino,axanthic,clown), or some of the dominant/co-dominants that are just getting off the ground such as the Het. Red Axanthic/Red Axanthic project.

Problem I see with the Mojaves is the price is still relatively high compared with how many people have their hands on the gene. There seems to be alot of mojave blood floating around out there and while they are beautiful snakes, it doesn't take a PHD in math to figure out that next year the Mojave market is going to slip even more, much as in the case with pastels.

Just like to mention as well that this is just my opinion, and that in no way am I trying to say that the mojaves aren't worth squat b/c we all know that isn't true. I just stated above exactly how I would approach buying into the ball python morph market, and hopefully my view of things can be of help.

i was thinking about getting just the ghost hets and a visual male....but i think with visual females i can jump into combos in the next 2-3 yrs where with the hets ill be making just visual...i can also make combos w hets too...but i think ill have a higher chance on using visuals then hets...and as for the rare codom/dom traits...i dont have the cash and besides i got a limited amount of females only.....but i think i cant go wrong with the ghosts and raising them up and saving for a pastel het ghost and aiming for a pastel ghost....but thank for ur opinion....

Once you get past 2 or 3 females to your one (and only) male of a particular type, you are raising the stakes that a particular male will be a good breeder and won't die, escape, or otherwise not breed all of those females.

Although I am not a python breeder, every year I get calls and emails from cornsnake hobbyist breeders who lost their male and now have 4 or 5 or more females sitting all alone and useless for the breeding season.

Once I get more than 2 or 3 females in a particular project, then I like to get enough females to make it worthwhile to have a back up male. Or I do another, related project where it might be helpful to have 2 different male and female groups that were of types that one male could breed ALL of the females if necessary, and still produce something interesting.

Not Knowing what you already have, and assuming these are all 05's
I would go for 1.3 ghosts. (if those are my only 2 choices) and bank the balance for next year.There are so many Mojaves out there now, I'll bet next year they will be 2/3 -1/2 this years market price.(Look at what happened to spider prices the last couple of years) Save up ! by the time your .3 are ready to breed you can have your cake and eat it too!

Course if you have the money to pick up a 1.1 Ghost and 1.0 mohave then you could probably pick up 1.3 ghost and 0.1 spider. Then when they start breeding you will be producing het honeybees right away too. Female spiders are very reasonable down there and they still command high prices for the crosses.

Assuming you will be picking up babies keep in mind that with the 1.5 you will not be breeding for 2-3 years. If you pick up the 1.1 and the 1.0 mojave - you will be able to breed sooner and start recouping your money - since you are not planning on purchasing until next year you- the price on mojaves will most likely drop enough that you can pick up a couple of adult females with that mojave too. Then maybe pic up some more female ghosts or other morphs with the money you are making off the mojave.

That unless you want to make ghost hets for a couple of years - you could use the money for the male elsewhere maybe pick up two females instead - and then buy the male when the females are ready.
