off the top of my head I'd say it is a UTEP specimen, maybe a Worthington snake? Just a guess, as I once knew and have since forgotten. It's hell getting old....

That may be the snake that Alec Knight collected although I think that snake was supposedly a few feet (literally) into El Paso County (the only known specimen).
Where did you get the picture?
Did you ask Carl Lieb if you could use his pics of the Indio Mtn animals?

Sure enough, and photo by Bob Haase. Oddly enough the one I credited to Bob Haase was photographed by Alec Knight and caught by "unknown". I'll fix it tomorrow.

About time!! Thanks Joe for posting what you did. What about Dan Johnson's 4th wild caught? Was that the one on the alterna page's wc of the month for 2 years?
What a beauty! I love that dove gray...

Thanks Dave!!! All 4 of Dan's are sweet. Are they all still alive? Hopefully John Fraser and I will be out there this weekend. Thanks again.
Brad,
I think 2 of Dan's wildcaughts have died and I heard the Dave Doherty has the other 2...I'm not sure though, because I heard it second hand. I've been meaning to call Dave and ask him. Unfortunately, Dan quit returning phone calls....I guess he's tired of being in the limelight.
Good luck to you and John this weekend, I hope you guys score. I don't think alterna are rare in the Huecos, I just think the experienced alterna hunters (who know how to hunt cuts) haven't spent much time looking. I'll be there myself over the long weekend....I'm not going to stop looking until I find one! lol
I still have many of my wildcaughts including the two remaining
Huecos. I didn't attempt to breed anything this year though.
A few more tidbits of information: Two of my Huecos were collected in August and the other two were in July. I didn't
previously provide dates to anyone. There were also 4 additional
Huecos collected by Richard and Frank Brown in the '90s. Their
collections were also kept secret, but in my last conversation
with Frank a few years ago, neither brother particularly cared
about keeping things secret since neither collected alterna
any more. I believe all four of their alterna were collected
in August. That makes 10 alterna collected in the Huecos in the
last 15 years -- 8 of them in August. The Brown brother's
alterna were all light alterna phase. I have photos of a couple
of them and may post them at some point.

Hi Dan. Thanks for the collecting info. Great to hear from you again! Kind of like Lazarus. lol.
I've got a lone male from your 2003 breeding [from Jon S.] and would naturally love to pair it up but wont hold my breath that that will happen. There have been 2 other hueco alternas collected that you may or may not of heard about but the collectors don't want to be identified. This happenned in 2002 and 2003. I didn't know of the Brown's success either.
John and I will also spend some time in another area that you have found leps but not alterna in. Hope its not too wet. Didn't think I would ever say that! Thanks again for ressurecting! BA
....disappear completely. Your contribution to the alterna lover's community has been considerable, and we are a poorer bunch without your input and participation (and awesome photography, too).
Please, please, PLEASE, post the pics of the Brown's Huecos! I can't get enough of seeing wildcaught Hueco Mt. alterna...lol

Ol' Dan can't hide. I know where he lives. I'll root him out next time he hides. I assume you will make your presence known at the EXPO Dannus? I knew with all this stuff that's being written mentioning your name, you would come out of the woodwork. See you on the 9, 10, and 11th!

Yes and I am still crushed that I was seemingly the last to find out about them. Frank finally fessed up to me about them this spring.
I mean c'mon guys, I haven't had an 800 number in years
