male and female rats at 5 weeks of age. I keep looking at them and they kind of look the same. There's a bit of difference in the some of their spaces between the good 'ol chute and the thier organ. I guess at this stage it should be rather noticeable. I searched the archives but only found a pic of a hairless pup with two dots.

Thanks
Dave

Okay, these are so obvious, being hairless....but here is a hairless boy at just 4 weeks.

And the girls......

I gotta think that if you can't see much difference at 5 wks that you have a bunch of girls. Seriously though, warm them up and hold them like these are, or squeeze their tummy A LITTLE...not like the poppy eye toys but to some degree. If there is anything to show it will. Just don't ask me to tell you between 2 and 4 wks.

Thx Sonya,

I'll give it a try tonight. They are five weeks on Sunday so I'll give them a little squeeze and find out. Since I pulled them from the parents they seem to be battling each other. Could be a new cage or entering sexual maturity. I don't know but I better separate the males and females soon.

BTW, if I isolate the males and females until they are three months old, then put them together, would they fight when I put them in 1.3 colonies?

The testicles look huge! I guess I have all females. Boo.

Thx again,
Dave

Not rats...the only time rats fight for me is destinct personality conflicts with individuals.
Furry's are a little less obvious than hairless. But by 5 wks something ought to be showing for you.

Dear Sonya:

Hi: I have enjoyed reading your posts on feeders. You have lots of feeders and lots of experience and you are very kind to share your knowledge and experience so people can learn from you.

I gots a question about the hairless. I don't remember where I read it but I when I was reading a lot of care sheets, I read somewhere that the hair portion of rodents is indigestable but good for ruffage. (akin to fiber in human diet). I have always remembered that tid-bit and stayed away from buying or breeding hairless varieties of rodents.

Is it really true that snake use the rat hair as ruffage or does it really not matter much? How is the poop of your snake when you feed exclusively hairless?

My question is: How does having no hair affect the poop of your snake? Does it make much of a difference? What is your opinion?
