Two Basking Spots

wejwaj Aug 25, 2005 02:29 PM

I have two juvie dragons believed to be m/f. They are in a 20L but are soon to be moved into a 4x2x2 enclosure. I am going to keep them together; but I want two basking spots as to avoid squabbles. What is the best way to achieve this? I was thinking about hooking up two track light-esque fixtures with low wattage bulbs in different areas on the hot side of the cage.

Any sugestions????

The photo you post is not showing.

However, if you could find a way to make a visual barier between two basking rocks, preventing all sight from one another, but equally easy a location to find, it would help I think.

Good luck.

please elaborate; i wouldn't have just rocks as basking sites but rather branches and [bleep].

a 4'x2'x2' tank is too small for two bearded dragons. It is also best to house male and females separately untill they are ready to breed (female 15 months, male 14 months) and even then, only as long as it takes for them to mate.

well that's what i've got. i've seen it done successfully in the past, so i've got my fingers crossed

Just because you've seen it done doesn't make it right. You should do whats best for your animals instead of trying something that someone else has done. My pair was housed together because they were supposed to be female it wasn't until after they started breeding that I found out that they weren't so I seperated them but not before my male injured my female in the process of forcing her to breed when she wasn't ready. In my opinion if you're not willing to do whats best for the health and saftey of the animals then you shouldn't have them in the first place. When my pair was given to me I knew nothing about bearded dragons but at least I listened to the advice on the forum because they knew more than I did and most of them probably still do so you should take the advise thats given to you.

don't be such a mo

>>don't be such a mo

So she's being a "mo" for offering a warning that personally happened to her?! You know what? If you don't want to take the advice of people because it doesn't agree with what YOU want, then don't ask, and better yet...don't keep animals! But no, you'll go ahead and do what you want, because you know everything...then when something goes wrong, you'll come back sobbing for help. Do your animals a favor, get over yourself.

Well unfortunately no matter how much you wish to deny it all of the advice offered here was correct.

The demensions on that tank are way too small to house more than one dragon, infact its about the minimum size for one dragon.

Housing a male and female togehter is a very bad idea. If they are too young then they will mate early which could cause the female to die. If they are housed permanantly together she will be overbred and will eventually sucum to stress related illness and probably death.

If you dont care about your dragons enough to take care of them properly and to listen to good advice when its offered then you should find them a new home.
