i haven't fed butternut squash to my dragons yet. Do you just cut up small pieces of it? Should you restrict the amount that you feed them?

being that it's a winter squash, I would think it would need cooked first and then just cube the flesh. But I've never tried feeding anything except for summer squash yet (yellow crook-neck).

Good luck!

Yes, you need to cook it. I just pop some in the microwave with a little water until it's soft...usually 1-2 min. It's a great staple veggie, so you can use it a lot if you wish. Mine love it!

I was wondering if you need to cook it or something...

I thought that if you cook it, you lose some nutrients (by microwaving you'd lose less than boiling of course!) so then i thought that it should be fed raw....but i practically need a CHAINSAW to cut it up and was wondering how they can eat it if i can't cut it! LOL

Thanks for the info...i'll try it out today

i use butternut, speggetti, and acorn squash all raw fro my herps i just peel the skin of cut it in half to remove the seeds and either grate it or stick it in the food processer with a shreding attachment. for smaller dragons i also but it on the proceser on chop after i a shred it so the peices are small enough. is their an importnat reason it needs to be cooked or is it just to make it easier for people to cut up?

I also use a food processor. I cook it until it's just soft enough to eat. I find the butternut squash to be hard as a rock, so I just cook it a little to make it easier to eat, even if it's processed into very small pieces. That's why I microwave it until just barely cooked, to retain as much of the nutrients as possible.
