is my basking temp too high.

ibnz470 Aug 25, 2005 06:26 PM

I have three hallogen flood lights in my water monitor enclosure two are 45 watts and i wanted the one furthest away from the cool end to be a little higher (50 watt) so i could get a basking spot of about 130 but it ended up being around 150 instead. Is that too hot? thanks alot.

I have used basking surface temps of 130-160 without problem. Does your monitor use it or avoid it?

You can adjust the surface temps. by moving the lights closer or further away.

If your using halogens just be sure your not using the ones with the clear center. I believe it was a diamond shape or hexagon shape in the middle. They have proven to burn the skin.

I use incandescent bulbs mainly because they spread a wider beam.
I think it was something like 65 degrees compared to the halogens 25 degrees.
