Rainbow Boas

malky20 Aug 25, 2005 07:56 PM

Hi, i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. i already own 2 royal pythons, a yearling jungle carpet, and a 4 year old pacific boa, but i have a spare vertical, well ventilated setup. the only problem is that it is around 3 feet high, then 1.5 long by 1.5 wide. do rainbow boas tend to be arboreal? it is an argentine rainbow boa im considering. i know this setup wouldnt do for more than 2 years, but if im getting a neonate, would this setup be ok?

any advice would be appreciated,

Malcolm

I personally can't picture this working for a Rainbow boa baby. And as you already said, it is too small for an adult. Troubles I see are that baby's want safe, secure, high humidity without being wet. So if you can make it that then go for it. But I would post to the Rainbow boa forum too.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

You could try sectioning off a small area for a neonate to give the impression of security. Aaron.

Rainbow Boas are largely terrestrial snakes. They will climb occasionally, but don't do it as often as other south American boids. I don't think this cage would be a good place for a Rainbow.

You might consider something like an Amazon Tree Boa. They aren't a snake you can handle (unless you like getting bitten!), but they are pretty neat animals all the same. There are quite a few people that breed them and captive born babies tend to be easier to deal with.

The only concern I would have about trying an ATB is that you describe the cage as "well ventilated" and ATBs require reasonably high humidity.
