orange feces?

mijfr0g Aug 25, 2005 11:01 PM

I went on a 3 day vacation, leaving my 1yr old RES in the hands of my parents. When I came back, there were clumps of orange stuff on the bottom of his tank. When I took it out, it was mushy, which makes me assume this is his feces. Is there any reason this should happen? Could he be sick? If so, how serious might this be?

I've noticed he's been gaining some weight as well, so I've cut down the protein in his diet. Instead, I've have anachris in his tank at all times for a healthy snack whenever he's hungry. I've also tried some type of water moss (I can't remember the name, but the girl at the pet store said it would be OK for him to try it...) I've given him a few strawberries, grapes, and cooked carrots. Would this diet cause the orange color? Also, I have no gravel at the bottom of the tank, just a few tank decorations to keep some of the anachris in place while it sits there.

Thanks for any input!

You say you gave him cooked carrots to eat, there's your answer. Yes carrots will cause orange feces.

We started our dog on carrots when he was a teething puppy because A.) carrots are a good healthy dog treat, B.)the coldness of them made his gums feel better so he didn't chew up shoes or anything else we didn't want him to chew.
11 years later he's still eating carrots for treats, I pooper scoop orange feces every day of my life LOL!

Can't say that's happened before! Though, I guess the fish I feed mine are pretty tiny.

And most of them aren't that orange...
