Santa Ana Mtn Speck.......

bthacker Aug 26, 2005 12:26 AM

Anyone ever see one or have a pic? I remember as a kid catching one in Holy Jim Canyon as a teenager. No picture except in my head and it was one of the most beautiful animals I have seen. To be honest I am not even sure if it was a Speck. I can describe it as pastel green, pink, banded tail. The colors were amazing. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks-

Brett

I have a Speck myself and I know they are highly variable but this guy had more pastel green and pink. I am going to have to go looking in the area again when I get a chance. I live in NorCal and it's not as easy to get there as when I lived in El Toro. BTW- That pic is awesome. Georgous snake!

Well the pink is there but it's pattern was more defined and there was light pastel green. I remember standing up at an SCHA meeting and describing it during field reports and all I got were blank stares from everyone. It's one of those animals that you wish you had a photograph of or wished you would have brought home to Mom. This was 14 years ago but I will definitely get back in the canyon one of these days....I have found some neat stuff including Zonata out of there.
