MY FEMALE HAD EGGS AND NOW I HAVE QUESTIONS!!!!!

darthjadden Aug 26, 2005 05:39 AM

ok well my first question is concering the eggs. they were compacted together really good and it crushed some of them but others it just stlightly dented. i kept the ones that were slightly dented should i have done this? also there was one that was slightly cracked and it still looked ok so i put super glue on the crack and kept it as well is this ok? unfortunately thought some of the eggs were totally crushed. i have them now incubating in vermiculite and peat moss around 85 degrees and around 80-85% humidity and my next question is how do i tell if the eggs are good or not? i also was told to remove bad eggs right away but i also read that you should leave the eggs even if they look bad because perfectly healthy tortoise have hatched from bad looking eggs. any suggestions would be helpful.
i have pics if anyone wants to email me i can send them to you.
thanks jason

Honestly I am not a breeder, I don't deal with eggs so I can't give you any first hand advice. Based on things I've been told by other people, I'd keep the dented ones for now & if they start to mold later on, then I'd get rid of them. Otherwise just incubate them & see what happens.

A little more than 3 months ago my vet spayed a female sulcata, took 30 something eggs out of her, kept 17 & the breeder took the rest. The breeder candled the eggs & said they were fertile.
2-3 weeks ago the vet's clutch hatched one baby, after well over 100 days she decided to start looking in the unhatched eggs & found that all of them were empty. So 1 egg out of 17 was good & the rest all looked good. They never molded, never collapsed but they were empty.

Please do keep us updated!
Maybe in the meantime someone with egg experience will pop in & offer something of value advice-wise.
