Substrate - Peat Moss

chamkiller May 17, 2003 09:04 PM

I have been using Peat moss for a substrate for my 3 leopard geckos for about 18 months. I wet it an mash it down in the bottom of the cage. I haven't had really any ill results. Has anyone heard about peat moss causing impactionss or anything??? Thanx.

Well any loose substrate can cause impactions. Peat is more organic than sand and should pass easyer but the risk is still there. One thing though, if your wetting the peat down I would be worryed about respirtory infections with your leo, as that is alot of moisture for a leo, also the thing about organic substrates is that bacteria grows carzy in them, esspecially if it is moist. Just my 2 cents
