"When you receive your shipment, carefully unpack the cultures from the shipping box and allow to reach normal room temperature. If the media has shifted during shipping, firmly tap the container down onto a counter top to re-settle it. Most of the adult flies should have survived shipping, however in the rare event that there are no obvious adults the culture will produce more within a couple days as they contain hundreds of larvae and eggs."

i have already read that and the cultures have had 4 hours to warm up and are at room temp. i know it says wait a few days and they will produce more but i am new to fruit flys and thought at least one fly out of one of the cultures would have survived the trip? Is it normal to recieve a culture and have no living flys in it and should the larva be active? Sorry for the simple questions.
Seth
although i have yet to raise FFs. There might have been a bad cold pack or and extreme heat source or some unknown along the journy from black jungle that may have wipped out all the flys.
Like they said there should be larva in there. If you dont see any growth in say about a week, contact black jungle. Or better yet go ahead and drop them a line now. I say youll have a busiling (sp?) culture of flys in the next 1-2 weeks.

Thank you for the reply i tend to worry about things more than i should. i sent black jungle an email to notifiy them that all the flys had died. The larva probably survived so in a week i guess we will see what happens.
Seth
Just watch for larval climbing the side. That normally happens in a few days or so.

I wouldn't worry. i got my fruit flies form black jungle the other day and I looked in the hydei culture and there were tons of flies on the ground not moving, well needless to say, they are moving and I made a few cultures out of them now. Good luck.

My Hydei take about 2-3 weeks to produce after starting new cultures, but I do get good production from them also.

you should contact B.J. as they should offer live delivery. If the flies died, it was probably due to extreme heat. Without knowing exactly what happened to your culture, it may have killed the larva and eggs as well. You may have to wait and see, but your frogs cant afford that time period, as they must eat. No need to worry about my frogs not getting enough food, as i have no dart frogs. These cultures were my first and were what i was going to have going before i purchased 3 D. Lecomelas for my 20 long aquarium. It needs a nice piece of driftwood then it will be finished, but with out some cultures that i know are producing the frogs will just have to wait.

My two month old leuk froglets eat more than I can believe. They make the adult galacs appear anorexic by comparison.

Those that replied thank you for the advice. I've notified black jungle that all the flys died in shipping. i'll just have to wait a while to see if any eggs or larva survived as you all suggested.
