How to breed mice.... Anyone?

HerperHelmz Aug 26, 2005 05:34 PM

I understand this isn't the correct place for this sort of topic, but the feeder forums move slowly, and I notice all of mice breeders in here.

So how do you breed mice exactly? I'm thinking of just getting 1.1 or 1.2 mice from the pet store, and putting them in a 10 gallon tank with care fresh as a substrate. What do you feed them, how do you offer it to them, and how often?

Any insight?

I use to bred mice and rats. I ran 1 male to 12 females in each container (of mice)which was sweater boxes. I fed them dog food with a 20-21 % protien content. Change substrate VERY often, to be so small they can smell really big. Also once a week I would feed them a product I belive is called "pig popper" it was a feed that had antibiotics in it and it helped prevent them from getting "wet tail" or diarrea.Hopes this helps.

I have 100 snakes and a 4' Nile Croc that eats mice daily. I use aquariums for Rats and a Neodesha rodent breeding rack system for the mice. I use pine shavings, and feed them Mazuri rodent feed. The guy I got my rats from initally was feeding dogfood. I was feeding the rodents a real good dog food. What I was feeding my dogs at the time, and the rodents didn't produce very well. Just as my buddy told me. I switched to the Mazuri, and they produce great.

I pay $11.50 for a 50 lb bag of Mazuri. No dogfood will work as good as the Mazuri, and if you used any dogfood that made the rodents produce anywhere near as well, it will cost alot more then the Mazuri.
