Blister disease...

artgeckko Aug 27, 2005 01:03 AM

Well just when I have seen Grover make a recovery from blister disease, it appears that another Egyptian male Thor has some evidence of the same affliction. I have completely stripped the cages down and sanitized them. I wonder if it was some greens from my garden that passed some bacteria? i will post the pictures Grover showing his scarring from the illness. Hopefully the recent outbreak is now contained. Treating as before. Low dose antibiotics and betadine baths, dabs of topical anitfugal.

Btw....All the eggs(54) were infertile. After 60 days none demonstated any potential development.

that sure does stink! Hope ya got it quick, I know how it drove ya nuts before.

But hey you spotted it quick, and know what to do, so hopfully all will be well soon .

I'm terribly sorry about all the eggs too, such a shame. But it happens, we all have been there with different lizards we try and breed.

Hang in there, NEXT time it will be BETTER

The eggs very laid by two of my females about two weeks apart.
Both of which I had very little belief that they were fertile or that the females actually copulated with my male.
Thanks for the support.

Hey I don't know how much you already know about it, but one of my u. maliensis had blister disease, it left a big white mark on his back but he's living a great life since then. I'm pretty sure I read it can be caused by humidity.

(he's on the right)

artgeckko Aug 29, 2005 12:22 AM

Yes, I have read the same thing regarding humidity.
I really do not think that is the case in my situation.
If anything I would say that the humidity in the enclosure is very low < 12%. With the temps (especially recently in So Cal.) being really high. My biggest concern being that this is the second case I have had in less than a year. Different cages different animals....So that is a little bit of worry..
Either way, I may reconsider the caging for a while.
Here he is before the outbreak...

Thanks-
He really had a neat pattern-very do I dare say Microlepis.....anyway i hope the scarring is left to a minimum and the recovery is swift as well.
I have noted this as in the other case(grover) they went off fedd really quick. Color diminished to be very dark(obviously stressed) became flighty and then the blisters began to appear. What concerned my vet was the appearance of red tinged fluid in the blisters that he did not see in the first case.

Well we will see.
Will post pictures of the disease to clarify. as soon as I get a day off.....

sorry to hear about that ed. maybe you'll have better luck for the next clutch. maybe you should get some bacteria analysis on the plants in your garden. hope things turn for the better.

Hey Tristan-

Nice tegu-I had one chomp my hand once-wow did that hurt.
I think it was the only untame Tegu I have ever seen. Glad to see he is tame. The eggs-didn't think they were valid but there was hope....

How would i get a bacterial analysis of the Bok Choy from my garden?
Thanks,
Ed
btw-dog is better ? been outta the loop a bit lately...

not sure on how you would do that either. i'll try to find something for you.
Dog's doin great. he received his third and final shot for his worms last Thursday and is developing quite a plump belly now.
i'm varying his diet now with squash, carrots, grapes and bananas and lots of birdseed (he loves to forage for them). i think he got bored with the staple greens i give him although he does eat them in moderation.

hey ed,
i tried searching google of where and how to get a bacteria analysis for your garden but all that came up were results of analysis already done on specific bacteria. maybe you could look for bacteria from gardens that have been known to be harmful to pet reptiles in the archived forums. good luck!
