Gravid Female STILL not laying, its been weeks....

gonexenopus Aug 27, 2005 09:42 AM

hello,

when i first posted about Yema not laying it was August 15th, and this started two weeks prior to that date. so pretty much she has been gravid the entire month of August. She is extremely WIDE now and looks like she is going to pop. BUT, she is still eating and drinking well and showing no signs of wanting to lay. (crawling on the ground, pacing, pawing, etc). I've had a 5 gallon bucket of soil mixture for her to lay in for over two weeks now. it has a plant in it as well, and she shows no interest except to much on the leaves of the plant. hmmmm....should i still be concerned? i mean, her behavior is normal still. do i just keep on waiting? when will i know when it has been too long? also, should i go ahead and breed her to my male? i have no intention of raising eggs, so they would be discarded anyways, but would that help her lay them? i am starting to be a worried cham parent

Hi Rachel
This sounds very close to what I went through, with my girl getting bigger and bigger but no laying. What happened with her was my supplement wasnt givingr her the proper calcium so she wasnt calcifying her eggs well, and they never dropped down into her body due to an infection with one that broke. She kept eating and seemed just fine on the outside though, just HUGE. Im not saying that theres anything wrong with your's but I would recommend taking her to a GOOD herp vet and getting an opinion. As for breeding her to a male, im not sure at this point if that would help anything? But hopefully an experienced breeder can advise on that. Wish you the best of luck with you girl, and she could just be holding out on ya. They seem to like causeing us keepers stress
