Green anaconda behavior question

CFoley Aug 27, 2005 09:48 AM

Hi,

I have a male green, almost 7ft. I don't really believe in snakes showing "affection" but I would like an explanation to this...

The first few months I had him, he was a nasty thing, but he eventually calmed down. Now, if I sit down in front of his cage, he'll start surfing around, but as soon as he realizes I'm in front of it, hell slowing come out, tongue flicking like crazy, and go up my arm or my shirt, to my shoulders. This happens about 80-90% of the time when I sit and wait for him. This does not happen for anyone else that does the same.

Do they recognize people? Do I give off more body heat than my house mates? I dont know, but I found it pretty interesting. Any input appreciated...

Thanks
Chris

I have found green anacondas to be very personable, recognize, and really bond with their keepers when tamed. I think mine actually shows me a degree of affection and he appears to like interacting with people. All snakes are individuals and some seem to just like people more than others. I give these animals a lot more intelligence than most people do. A few of my constrictors will only let me handle them with no problems and show defensive aggression towards strangers. Bill.
