iv had my new chondro about a week and he still refuses food every time.hes about 16 months and i know he was eating with his previous owner because after being in my care one day,he deficated not to mention hes a very nice size for his age.hes a captive bred sorong proven male.im wondering if he refusal to eat is stress related or maybe hes going through a typical male refusal??is he too young to go through the male thing??i assumed that only happens once he hits sexual maturity?oh id aslo like to add that i also received a feeding a shedding chart and all seemed ok and i didnt notice any refusals.he was accepting food every 5-7 days ...sometimes 10 days but there were no refusal recorded.he actually seems scared of the mice, and when i introduce them he hisses and hides his head.now maybe he was fed prekilled but i feed all my snakes live mice untill rat time then i prekill.so is he imprinted in frozen??can this be fixed?what would you guys do in my situation

Hey Icey. If your new chondro was feeding well before it came to you, and is in good health, I wouldn't worry a bit. I think most here would agree that a week is really nothing for a adult male chondro. Frozen and live do smell different, and your guy may prefer frozen thawed, which is good. It is really more humane, in my opinion, to put a live mouse out before feeding it off. I don't particularly like killing rodents, but I feel it is more responsible to kill the mouse yourself, and give your valuable chondro a "risk free" meal. If the mouse has teeth, it will probably bite your chondro if it has the chance. To further reduce the risk to your chondro, you could kill the mice and freeze them, then thaw them later to feed. Feeding live mice is an absolute last resort for me. Just my two cents on the feeding situation.

Take care,
Kevin

it's only been a week so don't worry. Give him time to settle in, just leave him be for a week or two he'll let you know when he's hungry. I've had them eat the day after I got them and others took months to settle in and eat. Randy

With my other snakes I always have better results if I don't offer food too often. Wait until your next scheduled feeding time and then try. You might even try a different time. If you're offering at dusk, try around 9 p.m. or later. Or try in the early morning. Mine is really active at morning as well as at night.

yea i have experience, but not so much that im not willing to ask a few other chondro keepers their opinion on what i should do to acclimate a new snake.anyone that thinks they know everything really knows nothing.i think you should keep that in mind.i have been reading this post for a long time and i have never seen you ask a single question.is it that you have so much experience you cant learn anything new,or do you think you know so much more that you cant learn from anyone here?i dont have too much pride to ask a question when it has to do with the health of my animals.i never bought a yearling raised by another person nor have i bought a wild caught animal.all my snakes were captive bred neonates.anything that doesnt have to do with that,i know nothing about.to be honest with you,i have read a lot of your advise, and based on that,i feel i know a hell of a lot more than you, just not afraid to ask a second opinion.
