crickets... my wife is pushing

compasscreek Jul 17, 2003 09:16 PM

she wants them out of the house and couldn't wait for me to check the board for a cricket water recipe. she went out and bought fluker's cricket quench with calcium. so the only thing left is to make a spot on the back porch for them.

i have a question about the product she got though. has anyone used the cricket quench with calcium? is this a good one? also does this mean no more oranges and such need to go in with them?

I just started using Cricket Quench. It was recommended by someone on this forum and I have been really happy with it so far.

I still throw some fresh fruits and veggies in there (in very small portions) Just because I have been doing it forever, and I don't trust products all that easily.

The one thing I can trust is that it keeps the crickets alive better than the natural moisture from the food. So, as an alternative cricket watering method, two thumbs up.

I hope someone can comment on the nutritional makup of this gutloading product, without any preference bias.

I keep about 500 1/4" crickets on hand, and go through a teaspoon of the quench every few days. Very inexpensive.

I use Gut Load Cricket Drink with my crickets to give them water. Cricket drinks are generally just water in a gel base and have no nutritional value other than sometimes having calcium in them. I use Gut Load Cricket and Insect Food to feed my crickets. You need to feed the crickets nutritional foods so your chameleon gets the proper nutrition it needs. Chameleons get about the same amount of nutrition from the stomach contents as it does from the cricket itself, so if the cricket doesn't eat anything, your chameleon will only get about have as much nutrition.
