Blind Texas Collard Lizard

Sharon1961 Aug 27, 2005 07:09 PM

I have a Texas Collard Lizard that seems to have gone blind. It appears that his eyes are sealed shut. Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks,

Sharon

Your lizard most likely has some type of infection, either eye or respiratory, or maybe even both.

Check the temperatures in the cage and make sure he has a wide range to choose from (80s to 90s in the cool end, a little over 100 at the basking spot), and take him to the vet; he'll probably need antibiotics.

I recently brought this up on the forum, please look down below and you should find the discussion. If he can't see he will probably stress out and die, mine went down very quickly and would not eat, Eve includes this with a respiratory infection, but either way you need to get him to a vet that deals with retiles right away before he starts going down the tube, mine maintianed wieght and did eat for a day or two but then all of a sudden lost wieght, quit eating, and that was it....it seems as though in these collards there is a propenisty for this if they get a bad infection, as several people posted about this. Check down the forum, but bottom line get him/her to the vet....
