I bought a black rat from glade herps this last april. I asked for a male pure black rat. I received my 03 guy and for a while everything went fine.
He is a little under 3ft. long and is showing definite signs of being a mixed breed probably with a yellow rat. He is not skinny being fairly thick but he has stop eating larger prey items.
Now he will only eat the largest fuzzies with their eyes still close. He has never had a bad encounter with a larger prey item because he ate pre-killed before this started.
He has also stop shedding. May was his last shed. His skin appears dry but his eyes have not turn. I have a very large water tub in his 40 gallon critter cage so the humidity is ok. His cage temps are also fine.
He is active but seems to lack that ravenous black rat snake hunger. I have had may black rats and none has ever acted in this manner before. Any thoughts?
