Creamsicle corns Rat or Corn snake

RiverRatt Aug 28, 2005 12:37 AM

The creamsicle corn is a cross of corn and rat snake. How is it that it is clasified as a corn? Could the same be called a rat? I knew about the way they were bred just did not think till I got a lovely little creamsicle corn at the Ft.Wayne show today.

All members of the Pantherophis genus (formerly part of Elaphe) are rat snakes. So a creamsicle corn is definitely a rat snake. But common names do not need to make taxonomic sense. For example, depending on what part of the world you are in, a garter snake can be a colubrid or an elapid.
