Battling the dry air

Geckos_R_Me Aug 28, 2005 02:54 AM

Hi, I have never posted on this forum before but I have always loved chameleons. If I ever got a chameleon I would want to get a nosy be panther. My problem is that I live in Nevada and I figured they would slowly just die because of the dry air. How could I set up a humidifier in a way that would give the chameleon the humidity it would need? Thanks for any help.

Hey there Jess,

Panther chameleons are absolutly gorgeous creatures, and with the right care, they can be very rewarding animals. I know I absolutly adore mine

First off, you want to consider the tempetures you would be working with. Amything above 95 in the summer months could be trouble, so you may have to house them indoors occasionally during the summer months.

Second of all, you could improve your chameleons humidity by adding a number of things to their enclosure, such as:
- Plants to produce nitrogen and increase the humidty
- Shade to keep the cage cooler, and allow the humidity to last longer

When contemplating the idea of purchasing a humidifier or mister, you must be careful. Ive tried the Mr. Moister misting system, and it has worker wonderfully for me, especially outside. It has several differnt settings, and can expel large amounts of water for some time. You can also connect a simple PVC pipe to the top of a regualr humidifier, leading the your chameleons enclosure. There are a number of ways, and if you were to specify which way you would like to keep your chameleon humid, I think I could be of some help. Thanks, and good luck!
