Well, anyone in the U.S. should know about the hurricane about to hit the New Orleans area, it just so happens I live in the New Orleans area. If the worst should happen, what are some things that I can have prepared incase I need to grab my leos in a hurry?

Just prepare some plastic Ziploc containers with a few air holes cut in the lid. Line them with paper towel. If you need to evacuate quickly, you can just put your leos in these for easy transportation. You can keep your leos in these for a day or two, but you may want to cover the containers with paper or something so the leos can feel more secure in the dark. Use containers with some depth so you don't have to worry about your leo's tail sticking out when you're trying to put on the lid in a hurry.

If you need transportable temporary housing, you can use Rubbermaid or Sterilite storage containers. Drill ventilation holes if you have time. Just a 12 oz. tub is enough for an adult leo. Fill it up with a couple of hides and maybe a water dish.

You don't have to worry about feeding or heat if it's just a few days. The leos can handle it as long as you keep them at room temp. (It's what they go through during shipping and travelling to reptile shows.)

Good luck. We're all rooting for you.

Our thoughts are with you. I'm in California so I didn't realize how bad everything was over there. I know there have already been some college evacuations allowed. We'll all be praying for everyone and their friends and families to stay safe.

Xelda offered great advice. When they need to be, leos are rather durable critters. If you can, grab some heat/cool packs from the drug store in preparation...but I'm not sure you'll have time or be able to and they'll be ok for the time being.

I actually had a similar situation -- fortunately I have those plastic critter keepers and had some boxes. I put a bunch of paper towels in each for the leos to hide in, tossed the leos in the containers, and threw towels over the see-through containers so they would be less frightened. I am going to be honest and say that I did stick a bunch of my babies that were sort of the same age in the same box -- I took a serious risk that and chose immediate safety over potentially sickening my leos. I was lucky because they got along fine and no one spread anything bad.

You should have seen my friends' living room for the week - I was sleeping on the couch and the living room had little containers of leos strewn about. I got jar lids for water and bought some heat bulbs from the pet store. I put the heat bulbs in desk lamps and whatever else I could find, and stuck them over the containers.

I sincerely hope you won't have to evacuate. Good luck, and our thoughts are with you.
