? for everyone with digital cameras out there... looking for a decent one under $200 (more)

The camera I have now simply sucks for taking pictures of reptiles.. it's a $600 camera that's great for taking scenery, wildlife, my car, and what not.. but it will not pick up color or fine detail on my dragons.

I was wondering if anyone has a camera that is around $200 or less that takes good pictures of the dragons? I don't need one with a high zoom or mega-pixel rating.. i've already got that. I just want one with good color and a nice macro.

Thanks for any help. I'm about ready to use mine for batting practice!

Hey Brandon. I bought a Canon PowerShot A40 that I'm very pleased with. It's only 2.0 mega pixel and cost me $149 a few months back. For taking pictures of the dragons I think it's a really great choice it's got the macro mode which is so great to have when a good detailed shot is needed. Take a look at my photos below, and you can ask Chris Allen how well it matches them color wise, the best camera I've had. I'm no photographer I just set it and click and get those shots. I'm sure if I read the manual.lol I could take better ones. I know that the step up from mine is the A60 and that got really great reviews too. Very simple to use and great at capturing the true color.

It could be your lense selection. We're running a Kodak 4900 w/ the lens package for close ups. Also lighting will play into the quality of your picture a lot. We've found a standard reptisun 5.0 to make the pictures more acurate color wise.

Here's one that's not a bearded dragon but shows the detail and the color (we've had it blown up to 4' high for our show banner with almost no distortion).

I've tried taking pictures under every type of lighting possible.. dark, light, flash, no flash, flourescent, sunlight, shade, you name it.. it just will not capture colors well for our dragons. Takes great pictures in the distance and even close up of a lot of things.. but it's like it filters the light of the reptiles.

This camera is about 4 years old.. was one of the first generation Sony Mavicas.. could be the lense i'll look into getting an add-on for that.. thanks for the tip. I'll also look into your camera. I'd like to find something bc I'm currently borrowing my gf's moms camera to take our pictures and I need to get my own.. just hate to drop another $400 when I have a $600 camera that sucks lol.

BTW, I order all my UVB bulbs from you guys lol. Great service everytime.

Thanks,
