I usually take him out of his hole and place him on a tupperware lid still inside his tank and feed him off that.It minimizes the amount of substrate he could ingest.

okay.. but then how do you get him to eat the crickets running around? Or do you use tongs to feed him?

So far, I've just dumped crikets into the terrarium and used a spoon to make the crikets run near him, he usually eats one or two, then stops lunging for them. I've only had him for a few days, and he is very timid. I'm begining to think 1-2 a day seems like enough, he is pretty tiny.

Mine always eats what's put infront of him straight away, so there's never any stray crickets/locusts running around.

i have mine on damp/wet sphongam mossi have mine on damp/wet sphagnum moss. what i do is flatten the area of moss in front of him with the bottom of my spray bottle and throw the insect on there. the pressed moss serves as a plate…kinda

I drop a cricket, nightcrawler, goldfish, pinkie or mealworm right next to Uma and he/she eats it instantly on the drop, sometimes able to catch it out of the air like a dog it's cool. I don't think Uma would ever stop eating given the chance...
