Temp too high

ihilani13 Aug 28, 2005 02:31 PM

I have 2 new green Mantellas (nobody seems to be on the mantella forum). I live in Florida and even with my air conditioning, am having trouble keeping temps under 80F. I tried ice cubes melting on top, that worked for a short while, but I need a more long term solution. Any suggestions? Also, having prolems with mold on driftwood. Thanks for any help.

if so, I would raise it up to drop the temps. Other than that, I have heard of people putting those little computer fans in to take out some hot air.

do you have allot of bedding that is rotting? i had the same prob in a viv that housed my pacman in. i just replaced 1/2 of it with moss and it seemed to fix the prob.

I had that same prolem with the heat also. All I did was raised the light a couple inches, and it seemed to work. But i live in Colorado. I did however used to live in Oviedo FL, and was thinkin you could also have some of the top screened instead of glass. I cant do that here cuz humidity is an average of like 3%, but know that its very high there. Maybe just some vent would work, since humidity isnt as much of a problem. Am I correct anyone?

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, I was not running a light, I just added a uv, which may complicate the problem but I have it lifted off the cage. The terrarium is only a couple weeks old, so I don't think the rotting bedding is a problem, but I will remember that if it becomes a problem. My top is all screen, so it looks like a fan is my only option. My guage is at the top of the viv, I've read that that can often cause it to be way off, so I plan to move it near the bottom to get a more accurate reading. Thanks again for all the input.
